| Police warning over new key-logging 'Trojan' spam emails
Police are warning internet users about 'Trojan' emails containing links to malicious websites that can steal sensitive information such as PINs and password log-ins from vulnerable PCs. The UK's National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU) said the spam emails contain details of a fictitious order for web hosting or computer goods and display the cost that will supposedly be charged to their credit card. The email also contains a link to a website to view the order in more detail but if people click on the link, it takes them to a malicious website that allows hackers to steal data from their PC. The user is presented with a site that appears to be under construction but an exploit for a security flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser allows the criminals to plant a key-logging Trojan on an unpatched PC.

Metropolitan Opera Extends Its Populist Mission
As of this month, the Metropolitan Opera is bringing its populist message to a new audience: schoolchildren. Last Saturday, the Met transmitted "Romo et Juliette," starring Anna Netrebko, live via satellite to high-definition screens at five New York City public high schools. Some 2,000 students and family members attended for free. On New Year's Day, the Met will transmit to the same schools its new production of "Hansel and Gretel." Today, 2,500 students will spend their last day of school at the Met's first student open house, watching the final dress rehearsal of "Hansel and Gretel" and learning about how the sets and costumes are made. This outreach to public-school students is a new element in general manager Peter Gelb's multipronged effort to bring opera back into the cultural mainstream.

Your franchise could be at risk
Have you looked at radio-station Web sites lately? Some of them, even in small towns, do a good job of mimicking newspaper Web sites, including newspaper-like photographs of local events as well as daily updates of news, sports and obituaries. The ads look just like the ads on newspaper Web sites, which means those ad dollars are not going to the newspaper.I hate to admit that we were slow in getting our Web site up after my wife and I bought our last newspaper. There was so much to do, a Web site kept getting pushed down our "to-do" list. The wakeup call came when our city government began talking about giving away free business links on the city Web site. That would have made it more difficult for us to sell ads on our Web site. We announced plans for our site in a hurry, and the city, fortunately, dropped its proposal. The fact is that anyone can start a Web site these days for a few hundred bucks, and those newspapers procrastinating about the Internet need to get their own sites up before someone else does, be it a radio station, a chamber of commerce, a tourism group, a high-school journalism class, the computer whiz down the street or some guy you've ticked off with a news story.Your newspaper owns the franchise for news and advertising in your community and probably has done so for 100-150 years.
The new science of Obamology
During the Cold War it was crucial to understand the intentions of the Soviet government. This task was complicated by the obsessive secrecy and a lack of objective media in the Soviet Union. One response to this challenge was the creation of a unique field of study: Kremlinology. Sifting through slogans and talking points, Kremlinologists would make educated guesses about the plans of Soviet leaders. In the current presidential campaign, will it be necessary for American voters to develop Obamology skills? Sen. Barack Obama has taken center stage with his engaging personality and stirring rhetoric, but is remarkably coy about the specifics of his agenda. His campaign has posted a lengthy policy statement on its Web site, but it conceals as much as it reveals about the senator's political philosophy.
Brucie enjoys birthday in style
Veteran entertainer Bruce Forsyth has said he has no plans to retire as he celebrates his 80th birthday. "If I look as though I'm past it, I'll know it," he said at the London hotel where he will later host a star-studded dinner with 280 guests. Flanked by two beauty queens, he also hit back at claims he is "doddery" and too old to host Strictly Come Dancing. "Senile, yes, but not doddery," joked the former Generation Game host, who has been a star for 50 years. "You try to do live TV for two hours on a Saturday night without mistakes," he added. .
Viewers' Comments On Randy Salerno - Part 21
Keep family first. Cherish your friends. Remember where you came from. Live in the moment. The "smart-aleck" kid from Crystal Lake taught us many things by just being himself. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this tragedy.--Curt Mitchell, Hinsdale, ILI have written before, but I had to tell this story. When Randy died it hit me hard as it was so sad, as he left his family and friends behind. After watching all the tributes and hearing the stories of Randy from his friends and family, I realized he was just like my brother-in-law who was killed going on three years in Aug. on Lake Shore Drive in a traffic accident. Jeffrey who was killed was just like Randy and would get away with comments of how he handled himself. I was with Jeffrey the day he died as we buried my friend his cousin, and we were sitting at the table for the lucheon and Jeffrey had us in stiches laughing.

Sue says a researcher there gave her information on Morgellons Web sites. She went to the MRF Web site and found that she was experiencing every symptom listed - fibers, crawling sensations on the skin, brain fog, chronic fatigue, joint pain and more. Now, she believed, she had a diagnosis. What she needed was a cure. The doctors may have dismissed her symptoms, but, unlike with so many others who say they have Morgellons, Sue's family believed her. When her Dino-Lite microscope broke from overuse, Tom bought her a new, more powerful Accu-Scope for Christmas. He took her to every doctor's appointment, even counseling her to slow down when she spoke because, when she tried to get everything out in the five minutes a doctor allotted her, she sounded nuts. "Honestly, I didn't know what to think about the fibers," Tom says.
