FindWindowsHost.com Offers Access to Information on Windows Web Hosts

This week saw the launch of a new Web site aimed at benefiting those looking for information on Windows Web hosts. Unlike other search-based Web sites, FindWindowsHost.com aims not to be a jack of all trades, but a master of one.

There are numerous search-driven Web sites on the Internet that provide information about Web hosts, but they often tackle too many areas at one time, and sometimes lack focus, explained the Web sites editor, Anne Wongsawat. With FindWindowsHost.com, we arent looking at Linux hosting, or Ruby on Rails, or PHP hosting, or any other type of hosting for that matter. What we are providing is a comprehensive pool of information about Web hosts offering Windows hosting services period! We want this site to be the automatic site of choice for those with Windows Web hosting requirements.

FindLinuxHost.com Helps Visitors Navigate the Wealth of Information on ...

LINUX Web hosting is one of the most successful and popular Web hosting platforms ever. Its success has made it a standard. Depending on which report you read, only the Windows platform offers any threat to its supremacy.

Given its success, LINUX has been adopted by the bulk of the worlds Web hosts who offer it either as an exclusive solution, or an option to choose from alongside Windows. With such a plethora of Web hosts offering LINUX, finding a good LINUX host becomes increasingly difficult. Fortunately, FindLinuxHost.com (http://www.findlinuxhost.com), a new Web site launched earlier this month, helps make the job a bit easier.

Like the other sites in the series, FindLinuxHost.com provides a number of search options for users. The site offers a Quick Search tool which allows users to indicate whether they are looking for shared, dedicated or reseller hosting, and establish a number of price options ranging from less than $500 per month to less than $10 per month.

Easy WebContent Web Page Editing Service

It is a rare but unalloyed pleasure to try a product or service for which you have only modest expectations, and find yourself blown out of the water. Easy WebContent, an online service designed to take the fuss out of editing Web pages, is that good. In fact, this $9.95-per-month service is better than most stand-alone Web design applications I've used during my 13 years of building sites.

Easy WebContent isn't designed to compete with an Adobe Dreamweaver-scale product; it's meant to help average mortals create and update Web pages. And in that market, it has no rival. Online services such as Homestead.com use template approaches that restrict what you can do with your site; Easy WebContent comes much closer than its template-oriented competitors to being a Web design application.

phpBB3 takes giant strides from predecessor

As the world gets smaller, security threats and spam seem only to grow. PhpBB is the open source Internet Forum package that underlies a majority of the online forums on the Internet and its creators take their motto "creating communities" very seriously. All communities need to interact freely and safely, and although a long time coming, the latest release, phpBB3, has several increased security measures, as well as enhanced collaboration features and mobile optimisation.

Computerworld Australia catches up with some key players behind the software: Henry Sudhof, Adam Reyher and Meik Sievertsen. They discuss the development process they use, the latest phpBB release and what they are doing to address the growing wave of spam and security threats.

Is there any way to guage how many people use phpBB?

Henry Sudhof: For Open Source software that is a very difficult question to answer.

McCain seen as Republican choice

If anyone bothers to learn about the rise and fall of the political honeymoon of the just retired ex-President of South Korea, you will be astounded. President Roh was elected in 2002 by astonishing landslide. A relative new comer and novice administrator, Roh was supported mainly by enthusiastic young voters who were dying for "change" of all the old systems and old politics. Roh promised hope for change. They young supporters used all kinds of digital methods to urge each other to vote and spreading the message to all others to go out to vote. He won. The "conservatives" were shocked. He employed lots of so nicknamed "boy scouts" for his inner circle, all wide-eyed idealists who vowed to turn Korea upside down, inside out by trying to make changes. The result was miserable. Roh was even abandoned by his own ruling party which itself split into two different parties.

After campus gets ‘juicier,’ Yale considers legal options

A site is not responsible for users' posts only if it merely conveys information and has no role in editing the content as a matter of policy and practice, she said. But JuicyCampus' encouragement of racy content, she said, could make it responsible for the resulting posts.

Ivester said JuicyCampus does not interfere with content, except for removing spam and copyrighted material, which he said is consistent with federal law.

Aftab also said JuicyCampus could be sued for consumer fraud for violating its “always anonymous" slogan.

The Web site did track down a user at Loyola Marymount University in California when he posted a bomb threat in December 2007, and provided the information to the authorities, Ivester confirmed.

If JuicyCampus has the capability to track posts in some cases, it has a legal obligation to do so consistently, Aftab said.

Lighter side of sports

Darrell Waltrip says every time he thinks of Dale Sr. at Daytona, 'I cry like a rat eating an onion.' How come they can't talk like that in the other sports?"
.
Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle, summarizing the upcoming baseball season in the Bay Area: "The A's are rebuilding, the Giants are fumigating.''

Library events planned

The third annual “Edible Car Contest" will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to come, build an edible car, race it down the track and see which car travels the farthest. A variety of edible products will be provided but if you have a great idea, it is recommended that you bring it, as there is no guarantee we will think of the same thing. The car must be built and have moving parts. Last year, we received a very nice donation to create a lecture series encouraging the community to make informed decisions about their lives, their community and their world on progressive topics. To kickoff the series we have scheduled a debate among the three main DFL candidates for United States Senate, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, Mike Ciresi, and Al Franken. Mark your calendars now for Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

Laws of Life Essays Part 2

To me, that's a hero. You're my hero. Grandpa, you were a fighter. I want to thank you for fighting for our country, in the Korean War. You were injured, and received a “Purple Heart". You battled from war to cancer. I don't know how you fought for so long. Everyone hated to see you suffer the way you did. But you held on. You were suffering and we were all suffering with you. I only had one Grandpa my whole life, I never got to meet my other one. I heard he fought with the same exact thing as you did. I bet you're talking to him right now. I never did want to lose you, but I'm so happy you are in such a better place then all of us. You were one man who was truly happy to be alive, and to live life. You lived life to the fullest. And you taught each one of us exactly how to do that. You were a believer, Grandpa.

In Sudan, another conflict could eclipse Darfur

This potential flash point is Abyei, a small, ethnically diverse enclave on the border between the Arab north and the African south. Now, a dispute is under way over who should control the district – a power struggle infused with ethnic rivalry, marginalization, politics, and greed.

Split between Arabic-speaking nomads and non-Arabic-speaking farmers, Abyei is a territory where cultures once blended, but where a sharp dividing line has been drawn between two political forces that fought a civil war to a draw.

After a failed US-led mediation effort, Abyei has become a rallying cry for war. What's at stake? Pastureland, oil wells, and the continuation of a three-year-old peace deal that ended the 20-year civil war that killed more than 2 million Sudanese.

"It's like Kashmir, where you have two big entities – the National Congress party leading the country from Khartoum for nearly 20 years and you've got major rebel groups on the other side, and both sides will not compromise on Abyei," says John Prendergast, an antigenocide advocate for the Enough Project in Washington.
