There were little guys like Advance Asphalt and Seibert Trucking. There were chains like Arby's, Manpower and O'Reilly Auto Parts. There were social service agencies serving as sponsors with Iowa Workforce Development, Federal Probation and Parole, and the Iowa Department of Corrections. There were tables for filling out applications. There was a sign above one table that said "Public Records Checked While You Wait."
There was an interview room and a clothes closet for anyone who needed more starch. Some of the job hunters wore jackets and ties. Some wore jeans and tattoos.
A group from the Mitchellville women's prison wore blue prison-issue work scrubs, passed out resumes and made contacts for later.

I voted for a black man in the Republican primary in 2000. I voted for Alan Keyes, because he had the character, intelligence, knowledge and experience to make a great president. I would've voted for him again this year, had he chosen to run. Perhaps if the Republican Party wises up this year they'll get McCain to have Keyes run as V.P. There will be a black president in America before long, but it won't be Obama. It will be a black conservative Republican who runs and wins on the strength of his character, ideas and experience. .

The new fee applies to travel on or after May 5 for tickets purchased on or after February 26, 2008. I haven't checked a bag in years — even for long and international trips — because the airlines always find a way to lose them. Express-News Business Writers Experts in San Antonio's real estate market remain cautiously optimistic about commercial prospects around the city. Six panelists discussed the pros and cons of the market Thursday at a Commercial Real Estate Women's forum at the Convention Center. "We will never be the sexiest kid on the block," said Mark Granados, managing partner with HPI Real Estate Services & Investments. But he added that San Antonio still has a lot in its favor, such as several job-growth industries. In North Central San Antonio, big things are continuing to happen with Park North, the 1-million-square-foot Central Park Mall redevelopment project led by HPI.
